The encounter between the two Nordic participants of group B was again rich in goals. In the group stage, Norway won 9-3. This time, in the 7th place game, they managed to score nine goals again and triumphed 9-5.
Arena Sparta at Podvinný Mlýn said a stylish goodbye to the tournament. The final match that was played in this arena within the World Championship offered fourteen goals. Norway had the upper hand from the very beginning, being at least two goals ahead most of the time. The Danes remained in the game mainly thanks to the excellent Mikkel Skov Nielsen, but still they were down 1-4 after the first twenty minutes.
The Norwegians kept their margin of two to three goals in the second period as well. Especially in the second half of this middle period, the game turned into a demonstration of both teams’ offensive capabilities. The fans at Podvinný Mlýn saw seven goals within seven minutes, including a hat-trick completed by the Danish scorer Mikkel Skov Nielsen. After forty minutes, Norway was up by 7-4.
In the last part, Denmark pushed Norway into defense in an effort to turn the end of the match into a drama. But the Norwegians knew very well that they lost the last two matches in overtime and penalty shoot-out, respectively, so they didn’t want to allow a similar scenario. Although the Danes managed to reduce the gap to 5-7, that was it from them. In the final six minutes Norway added two more goals and celebrated a 9-5 win. The final goal at the Arena Sparta was scored by Patrick Hjemgård. So, after the Nordic battle Norway takes the seventh place, while Denmark ends up in 8th position.
